What are Meta Titles and Descriptions?
What are Meta Titles and Descriptions?
- Meta Titles and descriptions are what displays on search results on Google. This is what potential visitors will see and use to make a decision of wether to visit your website.
- They can play a big part in ranking for a particular search term.
- Meta Titles should include the site title and the target keyword for that page
- Meta descriptions are short descriptions of the page and should also include the target keyword
- You can fill these in using a plugin called Yoast SEO
- To edit them, you need to navigate to pages in WordPress and click edit on the correct page. You will find the Yoast fields on this page.
- You can add a view to the pages tab of WordPress which pulls in the Yoast data into the list of pages so you can easily see which ones have been filled in and which ones haven't
- Another way of viewing whether pages have metadata is by running a Screaming Frog report. This is a desktop application which crawls through a given URL and pulls out data such as H1s, H2s and metadata. You can then export this report as a spreadsheet to easily see the data on each page and whether any data is missing.
