I want to setup Google Analytics / GA4

Some questions to answer:

  1. Has the GA4 account been created on Google Analytics already?
  2. If yes can we have access details or an invite? Please invite hello@kijo.agency and then the rest of the team.
  3. If no do you need us to set this up?
  4. Who should we invite to this in the clients team once we have set this up?
  5. Has the tracking code been added to the website?
  6. If yes no further action required
  7. If no then we would need to add this to WordPress using the WP Code Header and Footer plugin (developer)
  8. Are you looking to migrate or create new goals on GA4?
  9. If migrating then please let us know what these goals are or provide access to the old GA property.
  10. If creating new then these should be discussed and decided by the KIJO team based on the project goals and what needs to be tracked.

What is GA4?

Google Analytics GA4 is the latest version of Google Analytics. Older versions of GA are being shut down in July 2023 and therefore websites need to move to the newer GA4. Unfortunately the old version is not compatible with this new version and works entirely differently. It excludes a certain amount of traffic from bots and non-human traffic. In addition data, goals and settings have to be setup new on GA4 and cannot be migrated from older versions.

Setting up goals / conversions for GA4?

If you have existing goals / conversions setup then these will need be setup again in GA4. Conversions in GA4 work similar to before where you need to decide the type of goal and then how this works. For instance if a user reaches a thank you page for a form this might be classed as a lead.

Custom Events

Google Analytics allows you to setup custom events for instance when a button is clicked or some other custom event on your website. This often requires code changes to the website and is a technical undertaking. This should be handled by a developer with knowledge of Javascript and WordPress.
